Copying only what's new
Why I wrote a small macOS app to get photos off a camera card, and what "already imported" should mean.
Mockup: placeholder text written from your notes and metadata. Replace with your own words.
My photo workflow is simple: originals go into dated folders, and editing happens in DxO PhotoLab. The weak link was the step in between. Catalog apps want to own the library, and copying by hand means guessing which files on a card are new.
Andermic Photo Importer does that one step. It scans a card, shows what’s new, and copies only those originals into plain Year/Month/Day or event folders. There’s no catalog and no account.
What “already imported” means
A photo counts as imported only when a file with identical contents exists somewhere under the destination, even if it was renamed. File size and small samples narrow down the candidates, but only the contents decide. Import logs are never treated as proof.
Copies you can trust
Every copy is staged, flushed, read back, verified, published without overwriting anything, and verified again before the card can be ejected. If something fails partway through, the verified copies stay put, the half-finished staging files are removed, and the card stays mounted.
The source is now public on GitHub under the MIT license, as a preview you build yourself while I finish testing it with real cards and cameras.
