When the aurora forecast lit up on November 12, the camera went out on a tripod at 7:38 pm and kept shooting until 9:43. That’s 1,039 frames at 4 seconds each, f/1.8 and ISO 1600 on the NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S.
Shorter exposures than a star timelapse keep the aurora’s movement from smearing into a flat glow; the curtains and pillars stay visible as they drift and pulse behind the trees.
