Late August 2013, on a week-long trip through Yellowstone. The D700 sat on a tripod with the 24mm f/2.8 wide open, ISO 400, and 30-second exposures, pointed straight up through the trees.
Seventy-three frames isn’t many for a timelapse, so this one is short. It’s rendered fresh from the original RAW files with a light lift to the shadows; the camera’s own JPEGs were much darker than the sky looked that night.
One frame from that night became a favorite on its own: during one 30-second exposure a light swept across the frame, leaving the streak in the sky and just enough light on the car to show it under the Milky Way.
